What Does it Mean to Be Content?

Preview: A lesson on how to achieve peace and happiness in our lives through God, no matter what may be going on around us.


Scripture Reading: I Timothy 6:1-21.

Memory Verse: Hebrews 13:5.

1. Discuss the instructions given in the foregoing Scriptures.
2. When should we rejoice in the Lord? Philippians 4:4.
3. What are some other steps we can take to help us be content? Psalm 55:22, Proverbs 16:3 & Proverbs 16:7-8.
4. What did the Apostle Paul say about this? Philippians 4:6-13.
Note: If we will follow the instructions given in the foregoing Scriptures, we will better understand how to be content. Even when we think we do not have all our needs met, we need to learn how to be thankful in all things. Praise God and wait on Him!
5. Is God still as faithful today as He was in Jacob’s day? Genesis 28:10-15.
Note: If we honestly believe that God never changes or His promises never fail, we should be able to say as Paul said, “…I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.” Philippians 4:11.
6. Do we see a commitment with contentment in the actions of the poor widow? Mark 12:41-44.
7. What was wrong with the attitude of the laborers in the following Scripture? Matthew 20:8-15.
8. What did John say about contentment? Luke 3:14.
9. What happened to the children of Israel when they became discontented and unthankful? Numbers 11:1, Numbers 11:4-6, Numbers 11:31-33 & Psalm 106:13-15.
Note: Sometimes our requests are granted even when it is against our own best interest, but it causes a leanness of soul. No wonder Paul told Timothy, “…godliness with contentment is great gain.” I Timothy 6:6.
