Preview: This series of lessons is dedicated as an introduction to Jesus. This is the fifth lesson in a thirteen-part series on this subject.

Pre-reading: John 6:27-28, John 16:1-33, Genesis 2:9, Genesis 2:20-25, I Corinthians 6:14-20, Ephesians 5:21-33.

Scripture Reading: Ephesians 4:1-16.

Memory Verse: I Corinthians 1:10.

1. What do we see from the foregoing Scriptures on how individuals can become one body with one purpose when united by the Holy Spirit?
Note: Webster defines the Trinity as the unity of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit as three persons in one Godhead. The question arises, do we have three Gods in the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit; or could Jesus be His own Father? Let us prayerfully see what the Word teaches on this very misunderstood subject.
2. What does the Bible teach us about there being only one God? Deuteronomy 6:1-6, I Corinthians 8:6.
3. From where did Jesus declare to the Pharisees He was sent? John 8:13-18, John 8:42.
4. Who directed all of His actions? John 8:22-29.
Note: Jesus was the Son of God; He was not God the Father. There was, however, no difference in their thoughts, spirit, and action. Jesus is the image of His Father, therefore, when one sees Him, they have seen the Father. The Church is commanded to be one body with God, through Jesus Christ.
5. How did Jesus further explain this unity? John 10:25-38.
6. How did Jesus explain His mission to the chief rulers and Pharisees? John 12:42-50.
7. What did the Father entrust to Jesus? John 13:1-3.
8. Consider and discuss the promised blessings that Christ expressed to Philip. John 14:1-20.
Note: This promise is as much for the Church today as it was for Philip. Also note John 14:17 says that the same Holy Spirit that united Christ and the Father will do the same for the Church.
9. How does Jesus make it clear that this relationship is made possible through obedience? John 4:23-24, John 15:10.
Note: We find a perfect unity of the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost, which is a set of three, but all motivated to one purpose with God as Chief Director.
